General
We are a long established
NHS General Medical Practice operating from
modern, purpose built accommodation in Totnes.
We provide a service to people who live
permanently or temporarily within our Practice
area. In total we provide services to
around 13500 people who live permanently
in the area and around 1000 people a year
who are temporarily resident in the area.
Doctors lists
All patients are registered
with one of our Doctors.
This doesn’t mean you have to see
that Doctor – you can see any Doctor
here that you want to. In general it is
probably a good idea to stick to the same
Doctor as much as possible, so that as time
goes by the Doctor will get to know your
individual problems. This seems more important
for patients who need to see the Doctor
quite often for whatever reason. If you
feel somehow you are not getting what you
want from the Doctor you are seeing, then
it is alright to book an appointment with
another Doctor.
Our surgery
Our practice operates from
a single site close to the centre of Totnes.
Click
here for a location map. The surgery
is built on level ground with excellent
access for both pedestrians and bike, motorcycle
and car users. The local community bus ‘Bob’
also makes regular stops at our front door.
Timetables can be obtained at reception.
Our surgery was built in
1999, is bright and modern in appearance
and well equipped. The surgery was short-listed
for an NHS design award soon after being
built. All patient related activities are
carried out on the ground floor of the building.
Wheelchair access is therefore possible
to all parts of the building used by the
public. There is a toilet that has been
designed for wheelchair users. Portable
induction loops are available for people
with hearing problems.
We have a car park with
forty one spaces of which three are reserved
for disabled drivers. The car park is accessed
from Babbage Road. Should this be full there
is a ‘Pay and Display’ car park
alongside our site. This is found by leaving
our car park, turning right onto Babbage
Road, then turning right just before you
get back to the roundabout into Borough
Park Road. Carry on past the swimming pool
into the car park.

Our services
Our Practice has a contract
with the NHS to provide you with medical
care. Broadly this contract can be split
into two parts: essential services and additional
or enhanced services. Essential services
are the things we do routinely to help people
who are ill or believe that they are ill.
Additional and enhanced services are the
things that we do that are intended to prevent
certain illnesses, or that are more specialised.
The ‘Our Services’ menu option
on this website will provide you with more
information on all of these services including
details of how you can access them. There
are a few services we provide that the NHS
does not fund. For these services there
is a charge.
Our primary healthcare
team
Providing healthcare to
such a large population requires the involvement
of many different people – there are
over 50 doctors, nurses, admin and other
staff based here at the Surgery. Teamwork
and good communication are therefore really
important. Together we do our best to ensure
you receive the care you need when you need
it. Included in this website is more information
on who these people are and what they do. |
